Cost Of Living Adjustment On Its Way!
The Social Security Administration announced today that the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2015 will be 1.7%. This means that for individuals receiving monthly Social Security benefits or SSI benefits, the increase will be reflected in the benefits received beginning in January 2015. The 1.7% increase is in line with the annual rate of inflation for 2014. http://www.socialsecurity.gov/news/#!/post/10-2014-2
The increase means that the average retired worker’s benefit will increase by $22 a month. The maximum benefit payable under the SSI program will increase by approximately $12 a month.
As a frame of reference, the COLA for 2014 was 1.5%.
Slightly over 70 million people receive some type of benefit from the Social Security Administration. Approximately 42.6 million of these individuals are age 65 or older. Nearly 14.3 million people under the age of 65 receive a disability related benefit from the Social Security Administration.
