The SSD Process Attorneys in Columbus, Ohio
What To Expect When Seeking SSD Benefits
The most important thing to remember while applying for Social Security Disability benefits is to be patient. At Cutter Hall Karlock LLC, we understand this process can be lengthy and frustrating. With this in mind, we have dedicated ourselves to doing whatever we can do to make the process easier.
What Is Required Of You?
There are a number of requirements for people seeking to secure disability benefits. You must be willing to cooperate in providing evidence to prove your disability. Additionally, you may be asked to attend consultations and evaluations. The process can be long and, more often than not, confusing.
This is where we can step in. The attorneys at our firm have over 60 years of combined experience working on disability matters and can guide you through the Social Security Disability process from start to finish.
What’s The Timeline?
The process starts when you file a formal application for benefits with the SSA. It could take anywhere from 90 to 180 days to receive their response. During this time, the SSA has a chance to evaluate your work history, previous earnings, medical condition, and other factors.
If your claim is denied, you have 60 days to appeal. It is important to have an experienced attorney on your side during the appeals process. The SSA will look at the claim and make a new determination, which can take an additional 90 to 180 days. If your appeal is denied, you have another 60 days to file a request for a hearing with an administrative law judge. This is where patience comes into play; it may take two years to reach your administrative hearing.
At your hearing, you will be able to testify and present evidence to the judge. A formal written decision will be issued and, once again, if you are denied you can file an appeal within 60 days to request a review by the appeals council. This review, too, can be set out anywhere from six months to two years. If they deny your claim, you can file a complaint in federal court.
Throughout each step, we can provide counsel and advocate for your needs. Our Columbus attorneys know what it takes to successfully pursue SSD benefits, and we are ready to stand by your side.
